Attempted destruction of the Inland Revenue Building

On 21st February, a Friday night, when the news spread of the terrorist aircraft raid on the city of Colombo and the air defense system going off; with a spectacular display of tracer bullets, many citizens were tense and eager to know what was going to happen next. After a while, the news spread that the Inland Revenue building was hit and was a blaze. Another aircraft was successfully shot-down by the anti-air craft firing and fell off near Katunayake. While a large majority was happy that the armed forces put an end to the air-raid menace, there were a group of people extremely jubilant. This was not because of the successful shooting of the tiger planes, it was because the Inland Revenue was a blaze. Some ( ministers, ex-ministers and business man ) virtually ran to see what they were dreaming of many years in doing was now happing for them by the curtsey of tigers. That is the burning of all tax files. Alas! They were much disappointed to know that the flames were extinguished pronto and that the tax files were actually safe elsewhere in the building. Tough luck folks!!. You better hope that a natural disaster hit us next time around to make your files disappear.
